What's Happening at Church of the Holy Spirit

April 20, 2008 - Family Liturgy
Due to the school vacation week, we will have a Family Liturgy, featuring Children's Sermon, in place of Sunday School at 10:00 am.
 
April 27, 2008 - Student Outreach Presentation
Students of Framingham State College will speak during Service about their mission and outreach work this year. 
 
May 1, 2008 - Ascension Day Service at 7:30 pm
This service will take place at Trinity Church in Concord.
 
May 4, 2008 - Walk for Hunger in Boston
 
May 9, 2008 - Know Your Neighbor
The Wayland Clergy Association's intercongregational program for learning about other religious traditions will be held at the Islamic Center in Wayland from 12:30-3:00 pm.
 
May 10, 2008 - Church Fair & Silent Auction/10 am-3 pm
Fair items include: jewelry, toys and games, White Elephant sale, books, bake sale, garden store, and a Cafe to keep you going! New this year is a Plant Swap (bring a plant, swap it for another) and "Going Green" activities for all ages. Can you help donate? You can drop off nonauction items starting after service on May 4th. We especially need new jewelry, nicely potted plants, wreaths, and cuttings from your favorite perennials. See Jim Stoddard if you have Silent Auction items (valued more than $25).

May 16, 2008 - CHS Choir Concert at 8:00 pm
Church of the Holy Spirit, Wayland, presents the final concert of its Benefit Performance Series with a festive concert of music by Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Rutter, Josef Rheinberger, and others. The Church of the Holy Spirit Choir, under the direction of Organist-Choir Director Daniel Ryan will be joined by guest baritone Kyle Ferrill.

The program will include Ralph Vaughan Williams's stirring and expressive Five Mystical Songs, a selection from John Rutter’s lively and festive Gloria, a majestic organ sonata by Josef Rheinberger, and a selection of popular spirituals. The concert will take place on Friday, May 16 at 8:00 pm., and a reception will follow the performance. Admission is $15 suggested donation. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals.

About Baritone Soloist Kyle Ferrill: Baritone Kyle Ferrill has performing experience in oratorio, recital, and operatic repertoire.  Recent engagements include the Dawn Upshaw/Osvaldo Golijov Workshop at Carnegie Hall (including his Carnegie Hall recital debut), and a performance with Jake Heggie and Ricky Ian Gordon, including Heggie's Here and Gone with the composer at UC Berkeley.  In December, Mr. Ferrill was a featured soloist with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops for Holiday Pops! 

An avid recitalist, Ferrill was a finalist in the art song category of the 2006 Liederkranz competition.New music is a special passion of Mr. Ferrill's.  In Ferrill's two summers as a vocal fellow at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center, he performed Ligeti's Le grand Macabre under Stefan Asbury, Berio's Sinfonia under Robert Spano, and Bernstein's Benediction under John Williams.  Other Tanglewood credits include a performance of Rorem's Aftermath as part of the composer's 80th birthday celebration.  Mr. Ferrill's passion for new music also extends to song literature, with performances of the music of Argento, Musto, Liebermann, Bolcom, Hersch, and Hoiby.

Mr. Ferrill's opera credits include Tripaldi in Golijov's Ainadama with Opera Boston and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Count Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and King Cadmus in Eccles's Semele with the Florida State University Opera, the title character in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, The Secret Police Agent in Menotti's The Consul and Top in Copland's The Tender Land.

Based in Boston, Mr. Ferrill and his wife Lexa co-founded the Ferrill Song Collaborative , an organization which presents
recitals and chamber music all around the country.
