| NEW! 'From the Assistant' Blog for Sunday School Teachers and Parents |
| Valerie Bailey Fischer, our Assistant Rector, has begun a series of training sessions for Sunday School teachers and parents, focusing on the specific Bible texts offered in our Sunday School curriculum. As a supplement to the training, she is also offering a blog, located here. Teachers and parents are encouraged to visit the blog often and post your comments. |
| Sunday School |
| During the school year, CHS offers Sunday School for children ages
4-10. Class starts at 10 am in the Children's Chapel (downstairs) with a
short worship service and discussion of major Liturgical seasons and
themes. Our teachers also present aspects of the our worship service and
introduce children to such texts as the Bible, Book of Common Prayer and
Episcopal hymnals. Students then break into age groups and move upstairs to the Parish Hall where our teachers present a Bible-based curriculum that uses drama, music, games, reading, art, puzzles, and more to address childrens' diverse styles of learning. Sunday School children join their families in service in time for the Eucharistic Prayer and Communion. Children ages 10 - 15 are welcome to join Sunday School as teachers aides. Consult our church calendar for Sunday School dates and click links here to view a sample lesson plan or long-term scope and sequence of our current Sunday School curriculum. To enroll your children in our Sunday School, please send an e-mail to Heather Connolly, our lead Sunday School coordinator, so that our teachers can be prepared to welcome your children into class. |
| Godly Play |
| In 2008 - 2009, CHS will adopt Godly Play as its Sunday School curriculum. To prepare for this exciting transition, a group of CHS teachers will attend a Godly Play Teach Accreditation course on September 6-8, 2007 at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Belmont, Mass. If you would like to become involved in this ministry, please contact Heather Connolly for more information. |
| Childrens' Sermons & Family Liturgies |
| Children are always welcome and often invited to
participate actively in CHS worship services. On weeks when Sunday
School does not meet, our Celebrant delivers special sermons in which
children at invited to the altar for a discussion relating to the day's
lessons. We encourage children especially to attend Baptism services in which we renew our Baptismal vows and joyously welcome new members to our community of Christ. Throughout the calendar year, CHS also features child-friendly Family Liturgies, in lieu of Sunday School, where we emphasize the power and joy that can be found in community worship. |
| Acolytes |
| Children ages 8 - 16 are encouraged to serve as Acolytes in CHS worship service. E-mail our Rector the Rev. Dr. Frederick P. Moser directly to enroll your children in this wonderful youth liturgical ministry. |
| Safe Church |
| Church of the Holy Spirit is dedicated to providing a Safe Church environment for all parishioners, especially for our young ones. We require Sunday School teachers and youth ministers to be CORI checked and also to complete Safe Church training courses with the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. |
| Childcare |
| From September through May, CHS offers professional childcare during service for children up to four years in age. |
