Outreach at Church of the Holy Spirit

When you support Church of the Holy Spirit whether by pledge, donation, participation in our fundraisers, or by directly supporting the outreach activities of our members you are helping to support the following organizations:

Ecclesia Ministries - offers social services to homeless people in concert with spiritual companionship and community in order to provide dignity and continuity for lives that have little or none of either.

Episcopal City Missionworks for social and economic justice in Massachusetts, with particular emphasis on the urban poor.

Episcopal Relief & Development – provides emergency assistance in times of disaster, rebuilds devastated communities and offers long-term program development solutions to fight poverty.

Project Bread – Walk for Hunger - dedicated to ending hunger in Massachusetts.

ONE Campaign – campaigns to make poverty history.

SAVE Darfur - an alliance of over 170 faith-based, advocacy and humanitarian organizations; raises public awareness about the ongoing genocide in Darfur and mobilizes a unified response to the atrocities that threaten the lives of two million people in the Darfur region.

Wayland to Waveland – provides short- and long-term support to residents of Waveland, Mississippi, who sustained major losses from Hurricane Katrina.

Checks payable to Wayland to Waveland may be put in our offering plate over the next several Sundays. If you prefer to write your check to our Church and mark it for Wayland to Waveland, that will be fine too; we will total such checks and add the amount to the parish's offering.

We will present all checks as a Christmas gift to members of the Wayland to Waveland Committee when they visit us on Dec. 23 and give a presentation about the work in Waveland. On the 23rd the Committee will tell us how our parish can continue our support of Waveland in an even more personal way by "adopting" one of the families that will move into their new Waveland home in February. We will have the opportunity to help them get started in their new life by contributing some of the ordinary household items they will need. There are also opportunities now through January for volunteers to go to Waveland and help at the construction sites. Volunteers are needed.  MC Garfield is coordinating our parish's participation in this mission and has applications.
