FRIENDS
OF CHS SHARE THEIR WORK AT DURBAN
CLIMATE CONFERENCE
Recently Janot Mendler and Pablo Suarez
of Wayland - of Mary and Ed Mendler's
family, who have spoken at our church
several times on interfaith and
environmental issues - presented the
creative game they devised to teach
about climate change at a conference
in Durban, South Africa. Janot and
Pablo presented their work (in which
some of us participated) at a workshop
with Transition Wayland at our parish
last June. Ed and Mary sent the
following link for us to see them in
action:

Daily Prayer Practice "We have a growing program of daily prayer here at Church of the Holy Spirit. The Anglican tradition, of which the Episcopal Church is a part, has long emphasized a holistic spirituality in which all parts of life (work, rest, family, etc.) are seen as spiritual. Praying the "daily office" is one way of living into that reality. For centuries, Christians have found that their spirit is refreshed, their capacity for love deepened and their awareness of God's presence in their lives enlarged by incorporating set prayer into their days. This is evidence by the fact that a daily cycle of prayer is a cornerstone of all Christian monastic communities. At Church of the Holy Spirit, a growing number of our parishioners are exploring ways to integrate this practice into their own everyday lives.
The Daily Office found in the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer consists of four prayer services: Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer and Compline (a beautiful close of day service). For a simpler practice, the Book of Common Prayer also provides "Daily Devotionals for Individuals and Families." This is obviously helpful for those who are practicing the office by themselves. There is also a "Daily Office Lectionary" which provides a selection of Bible passages for every day of the year to be used in conjunction with the Office. You can find resources and more information by clicking the link above. We invite you to explore this practice, as well. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or just to let us know what practice you have adopted!" |

Ongoing Groups at CHS
Men's Prayer Group
The Men's Prayer Group usually
meets once each month on a weekday evening from
September through June. Each meeting begins with a
sometimes wide-ranging discussion of personal
concerns, community issues, or concerns of the
parish and ends with a reading of the service of
Compline from the Book of Common Prayer.
Next
meeting: Tuesday March 29th, 8pm. Contact
Jim Metcalf
for more information. Crafters Group
A group of sewers, cross
stitchers, and knitters has been meeting at CHS
between 10 am and noon on weekdays convenient to
those in attendance. Their hope is to carry on the
fellowship begun in previous years when new hangings
were made for the sanctuary and a patchwork quilt
was assembled as a raffle item for the Spring Fair.
The gathering is open to anyone with some sort of
needle craft project. Contact
Marcy Kudirka
for more information. The Crafters Group
currently meets on Tuesday mornings. |
