About the
Church of the Holy Spirit
The Church of the Holy Spirit is a community of
Christians seeking to deepen and grow in our
relationship with God, through our life together in the
Spirit and our care for the world in Christ's name. We
are a small Episcopal church serving Wayland and its
surrounding MetroWest communities. Our church building
is set amidst the rural beauty of woodland on
picturesque Rice Road in Wayland, lending itself as a
natural place of spiritual sanctuary. You can see
more at our Church's
"About"
page.
How do I get to CHS?
You can find detailed
directions to
the church in the
"About" section
of our website. There is ample parking in the lot on the
south side of the building.
What Should I Expect from the
Sunday Morning Worship Service?
We offer creative worship with excellent music
throughout the year, celebrating the Holy Eucharist every Sunday at 10am.
For a detailed description of the service, you can read
our
Guide to our Sunday Worship
Service. The Episcopal Church also
offers an informative
Visitor's Guide.
When you arrive at the service, you will receive a
bulletin with most of the readings and responses and
some of the music for the service. The bulletin makes it
easy for you to follow the service, even if you have
never attended an Episcopal service before. After the
service, please join us in the Parish Hall for coffee
and conversation.
Is there Programming for Children
at CHS?
Yes! There is childcare provided in our
Nursery for
young children every Sunday. We have a growing and active youth formation
program offering
Godly Play for
PreK-Grade 4 at 10am on most Sundays September-June.
Older children assist in worship, help with other Sunday
ministries, participate in outreach activities, come
together for occasional fellowship events, and meet for
discussion in our
youth group
confirmation classes about once a month. Each Sunday,
the Godly Play class joins the congregation
midway through the service for Communion. Children are always welcome
in our worship services!
How can I get involved at CHS
beyond attending Sunday morning worship?
CHS is home to several ongoing
groups and
one-time
events
throughout the year, including several annual events
sponsored by
Fellowship. You can also get involved in our
many
Outreach
efforts, or take part in our excellent
music program
by singing in the choir or playing an instrument. You
can always check our
calendar for
the most up-to-date info on what's happening this month.
How can I Learn about the
Episcopal church?
The Episcopal Church in the United States of America is
part of the worldwide Anglican communion of churches
with ties to the Church of England. We are a catholic,
liturgical church influenced as well by Protestant,
reformed traditions. We uphold the ministry of all
baptized Christians, and have three orders of ordained
ministry: bishops, priests, and deacons. Our name,
"Episcopal," indicates that we are a church "overseen"
by bishops.
The Episcopal Church
website
is a great place to learn more about our faith. They
have a
Visitor's Center
with lots of good resources for those who are new to the
Episcopal church. You can also join us for worship on
Sunday and we'd be happy to tell you more!
